Blood on BBM's hand
“Whatever happens from here on, even when BBM is miles away from the scene for obvious reasons, one thing is sure: he is the most accountable.”
If there were any doubts that President Bongbong Marcos is his father's son, the viciousness in the hunt for Pastor Apollo Quiboloy removed all that.
Only a cold, ruthless mind could send Gen. Nicolas Torre III on that heartless mission to get Quiboloy at all costs –precisely what the latter is doing. Torre does not mind if he has been cast as the villain in this miserable witch-hunt, but there is a need to clear the air that he was merely sent there by someone higher.
In full combat uniform at the head of 2,000, some say 3,000 police officers, Torre leaves no doubt that he is in the one charge on the field. To members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KoJC) church and all those scandalized by the excessive use of force, it is easy to pin all the blame on Torre.
And yet, Torre is merely following orders. Photographs of him answering his phone are proof of that. No matter how hard he tries to draw all the attention and the scorn that comes with it, Torre is, at best, an errand boy of that vicious mind in Malacañang.
Throughout the campaign and even early in his administration, BBM has largely avoided unflattering situations, much like any politician would. A dirty job, like the one assigned to Torre, should be evaded like a plague, which is exactly what BBM is doing.
Unfortunately for him, he succeeded a working President who insisted on always being on the scene with his men in difficult and dangerous times. Only the Presidential Security Group prevented him from being in the middle of the fray, any fray, as much as he wanted.
Compounded by his image as a happy-go-lucky spoiled brat, BBM soon found himself in the eye of the storm when photos of him watching concerts and Formula 1 races made the rounds on social media platforms while the rest of the country coped with disasters.
It must have been an ordeal for him to visit places ravaged by calamities and try to touch base with the victims just to shore up his sagging image and arrest the slide of his ratings. He was a poor copy of the country’s most admired president, but he is left with no choice.
But while there are those who believe that BBM is out of touch not only because it is out of his character but also because he cannot handle pressure, the opposite is true. He is briefed about the most sordid details, not for anything but to force him to toe the line of his publicists and propagandists.
It's a no-brainer that BBM knows what is happening in Davao –and the rest of the country. BBM is just as determined, if not more than his old man, to stifle dissent and keep a firm grip on power. The signs are all over.
BBM is more accountable than Torre in the death of a KoJCmember, a 51-year-old food vendor – and he should be more accountable when all the damage this unfortunate incident is assessed at the end of the day.
This should be emphasized because BBM is again pulling off a disappearing act. He has been out of the public eye in the past few days, perhaps to wipe his fingerprints clean, but make no mistake, the buck stops with BBM on this one.
While many pray that the crisis will end soon, it is too early. The Marcos administration's intention to destroy Davao City and its image as a success story under former President Rodrigo Duterte, Vice-President Sara Duterte, and now Mayor Sebastian Duterte is not as thinly guarded as BBM’s hair.
And yet, the irresistible force that is the Marcos demolition crew seems to have run into, perhaps not exactly an immovable object in the KoJC faithful but no doubt a stubborn one. In fact, it could well be the flash point disgruntled citizens are waiting for.
Whatever happens from here on, even when BBM is miles away from the scene for obvious reasons, one thing is sure: he is the most accountable. If God forbid, violence breaks out in the process, blood spilled will be on BBM's hand.
This leads us to the popular question coined by his erstwhile critics, now turned rabid defenders: #NasaanAngPangulo?
Maybe, just maybe, he is the dust has settled (meaning Torre gets all the blame first) before emerging from where his mind took him.
