Vice President Sara Z. Duterte didn’t let it pass.

Duterte, in a statement, made a stand a day after more than a hundred forces of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group stormed into several KJC compounds in Davao City, Samal Island, and Sarangani in search of its leader, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy.

Kaisa ako sa mga nananawagan ng maayos, katanggap-tanggap, at makataong pagpapairal ng batas at pagtataguyod ng hustisya sa ating bansa (I am one of those who call for proper, acceptable, and humane enforcement of the law and promotion of justice in our country,” she said, referring to the chaotic execution of the arrest warrant against Quiboloy caused by the questionable display of excessive force and authority in front of civilians.

Duterte, who is also the Department of Education Secretary, reminded law enforcers not to forget the safety of everyone, especially civilians, and that it's important to ensure that young people are out of harm's way.

Sana ay mapanatili natin ang respeto, kaayusan, at kapayapaan sa ating bansa (I hope we can maintain respect, order, and peace in our country), she said

She added: “Maging laging mahinahon din sana ang mgaDabawenyo at ang buong sambayanang Pilipino, at magkaisa ang lahat sa pananalangin para sa katotohananat hustisya (May the Dabawenyos and the entire Filipino people always remain calm, and all be united in praying for truth and justice).”

Overkill

Former president Rodrigo R. Duterte strongly condemned the use of excessive and unnecessary force in serving the warrant of arrest for Quiboloy.

The police officers, he said, are not even from Davao City.

“This incident occurred within a place of worship and on school premises, which is absolutely unacceptable,” he said in a social media post on Monday.

He added: “Will this overkill be the trademark of this administration when dealing with individuals who are merely accused of committing a crime and have not been proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt? Will they exhibit the same lack of self-restraint they have shown towards critics of this administration when dealing with their supporters?

He went on to ask, “How can this administration guarantee the preservation of the constitutional rights of our fellow Filipinos when even the most fundamental of these rights are being trampled upon and blatantly violated?”

Tensions high

In the early hours of June 10, under the cloak of darknessbetween 3 and 6 a.m., tensions peaked as police officers attempted a forceful entry into several KJC sanctuaries housing over a thousand devoted missionaries.

From the bustling vicinity near the Davao International Airport to the serene Prayer Mountain in Tamayong, the spiritual haven of Glory Mountain in Purok 6, the tranquil QSands Baptismal Resort in Samal, and the sacred KitbogCompound in Malungon, Sarangani, the sanctity of these places was challenged.

Despite the alarming show of force, the KJC members chose a path of peace and cooperation. They opened their gates to thorough searches, demonstrating their commitment to transparency and respect for the law, even when faced with only arrest warrants.

At Glory Mountain, chaos reportedly erupted as the gate was forcefully breached, and two Indigenous missionaries from the B'laan Tribe were subjected to unwarranted aggression.
